2009 fun run

2009 F U N R U N.

Every year the kids school puts on a 2 mile race.....

Some kids jog, others walk with friends, and some try to win-

We are in the last category!

Pic of the starting line.
(doesn't that look so cool?!)

-beautiful morning, blue skies with a slight breeze-

Kids lined up. hearts a pumpin'

police escorts,

American flags,

encouraging parents,

running shoes ready to go....

bring it on.....

Jakers waiting to start....
Every year my kiddos have earned a medal and been in the top 3.

We are not the psycho parents who make their kids train or pressure them to win. But my kids have always wanted to win. Because they play year round sports, they have always had enough endurance and been able to pull through.
Last year Aus got 1st and Jake got 2nd

Cute cops-
It makes it exciting to have the cops on their motorcycles.

....

Kids lining up by grade...oldest to youngest so no one gets
t r a m p l e d...

Here we go!

woohoo, it's race time...line it up!
Ashlyn is in the pink top. Austin is in the white shirt, blue bottoms.

They were nervous - I couldn't get them to eat breakfast!

Not so good for energy- but off they went....

Ry and I run with the kids every year.

But Ry couldn't help with his ankle so I was torn who to run with-Ash or Jake....(I can't keep up with Aus anymore..)

So I decided to run with Jake b/c he was younger but a mile into the race, Jake had to stop b/c of a cramp....I decided to run on and catch Ashlyn.

My friend Kim told me Ash was at the front of the pack....even the boys.

So I cut through a street and caught up to her.

In her little voice Ashlyn said, " I (breathe) AM (breathe) IN (breathe) THE (breathe) LEAD. (big breathe).

even the boys, MOM!"

I love that girl....

She was tired and we were almost at the end. I said a few encouraging words and then she looked at me and said "ok, this is it, gotta give it all I got..." And off she went.

Ahh, I felt proud of her. Ashlyn ended up beating every boy but 2!

She came in F I R S T place for girls. woohoo.

Her best friend, Whitney came in 2nd! yay for Whit.

Jakers and Aus came flying in.....
Jakey's little legs were hoppin'

I was proud of Jake for pushing through it.

(he told me he guzzled H20 5 min. before the race! B A D)

He got 2nd last year and 5th this year. Good job toostie!

Good Job Austin!

Austin has the same 4 boys that compete to win-

He has taken first place in K, 1st and 3rd. But he was 4th this year.

Humble Pie is good sometimes.

(Makes you appreciate hard work and realizing you always have to give it your all to win.)

Quinn, his cousin in the red shirt, took 3rd place out of the 3rd grade! way to go!

Ashlyn and Whit at the award ceremony!
Yay for first and second.
It was fun to share that day with my friend Kim!
WE were proud of our girls!

Last night we took the kids out for ice cream to say good job.
We always are proud of them no matter what!

Till next year........

Past year pics of fun run in 2007 and 2008.......

do you love to run, love to run, love to run, love to run, love to run?

We do!

I LOVE that your kids are competitive in sports - they are so cool! I love Ashlyn's spirit, she obviously takes after her momma. What a great thing for your school to do - that trumps Field Trips anyday in my book.

Yeah girl power!! Where we live in Atlanta there is a huge road race on July 4th but end of May there is a 2K run for any kids 12 and under. Our elem school has a club to practice and get ready and they design a t-shirt. The boys have done this for several years. Last year we had all 3 but this year the oldest (turns 13 tomorrow) wanted to sleep in. Anyway it was gorgeous too and lots of fun. Now we just need me to get out there and run for exercise! Glad you guys had so much fun and weather looked gorgeous!

Like Mother like children. They all follow in your footsteps. That's awesome. You are an awesome example and give your kids such a great gift. By the way since when are cops cute!!!! I've never thought of them that way.
