Tarantula Heaven.......

Welcome to the Mountain House.........

Did I ever introduce you to our Tarantula buddies?

Tarantula #1

The first week or so when we were living at the mountain house, the kids were playing out in the scrub oak in the back yard and I heard Ashlyn screeeeam. Now Ashlyn is my daughter who loves every creature on this planet. She loves to hold spiders, ants, bugs, etc...She's not afraid of anything! So when I heard her yell from inside the house, I either thought mountain lion or a cougar.

She came running in and I could visibly see her shaking and she said," Mom, mom, mom there's a, there's a big, G I A N T spider....I mean a TARANTULA on our fence!" What?? My parents have lived here 5 yrs and have seen no such thing. I ran out to the deck and sure enough, a mother Tarantula. It was so big and so creepy, and so hairy. (Look closely at the post folks, that is a 4X4 post. It's legs are wrapped around the wood! )

Tarantula #2

The boys were playing outside with their cousins on a warm, fall day in early October. I heard my little niece, Lexi screaming. Jake and Austin were yelling really loud, obviously excited about something. "Mom, mom, come outside in the front, there is another Tarantula...this is a Grandpa daddy it's sooooo big." "No not again," I thought. I had the house/yard sprayed and I was so hoping this was a mistake. Sure enough I went out in the front of the house and lo and behold, Tarantula # 2. He was a creepy looking guy just on a casual walk in front of the house. I hurry and ran in and grabbed my camera to take a pic to show my parents.....It had the longest legs and the biggest body.

My sister, Amber, had just come to pick up Lexi and she screamed and jumped into her car and told Jake she would give him a dollar to "get rid of it." "No problem," the boys were happy to protect the Mountain House from the creepy Tarantula. In the next pic you can see what happened to the intruder......

We were all safe again..... Never saw a third tarantula but we did find a dead, black widow in the garage, a rattle snake, lots of deer, killer bees (no lie, attacked my nephews head! I had to pull them out of his scalp!) and squirrels and chipmunks.......Quite the adventure we won't forget.

Back to the safety of the city! My kids loved the time we spent at the Mountain House and won't forget all of the good times of all those creepy creatures.

Yuck!! This post made my spine shiver. You know how you feel when I start talking about toilets?? That's the feeling I get when I see pictures of or talk (read) about spiders.

You know I said People.com just for you. I am laughing. A new chapter begins in your life. I'm jealous. I love moving because everything is clean, de-junked and put in it's spot. This is the longest we have been in a house. Now I have to dejunk staying here. I love the tarantulas. I use to play with them. I hope everything is going better this week and turning around.

Tawny I have shivers in my NIPPLES, that's how much this post grossed me out!

I'm SOSOSO glad (no offense Mom) that I don't live there anymore. It's SO beautiful, but I JUST SAY NO to tarantulas. I remember the first night we moved in there way back before I was married, a fire truck came to our neighbors across the yard, and I went outside, and he told me to get back inside because there was a mountain lion in their freakin' back yard. Dangerous!!!

Girl, you know...I've been there! For two years! Beautiful indeed...but dangerous as well...lol! Well it kind of actually is.

I wonder where Lexi learned the term "I'll give you a dollar if you kill the spider for me!."

Amber says that 24/7 to her kids! Love it!
